Alison Orchard
Alison was born in Wimbledon in 1971. She first attended St. Ives School of Art in 1986 and at the age of 18 won the Scott, Brownrigg & Turner Award for Art, which funded a painting trip around Europe. She studied Fine Art painting as well as Sculpture at A-level and continued her art education at Epsom School of Art & Design (Foundation Diploma) and Harrow College, University of Westminster (B.A. hons).
Alison enjoyed a successful career as a commercial illustrator and designer, working for several national newspapers and going on to run her own business. Throughout this time she continued to paint and draw and had her debut solo exhibition 'Arvor' at GalleryOne in 2009. Following this initial success, she has continued to exhibit and develop her work and in 2012, was selected for inclusion in 35th edition of Who's Who in Art.
Alison is a strong believer in painting direct from the landscape, but also enjoys developing her paintings in her Surrey-based studio. She works in oil, acrylic and mixed media and really explores the limits of the paint. She is often out painting the Surrey Hills and has regular painting trips to Cornwall, soaking up its dramatic coastlines, which provide a great source of inspiration.
Alison has always enjoyed the discipline of life drawing and has recently begun to exhibit some of this work. Her years of regular practice allow her to work instinctively, with a confident line.
Alison's work has a growing following and is held in private collections. Her paintings have been shown at various prominent art fairs, with exhibitions in South East England, London, Guernsey & Portugal.
